MORTAL INSTRUMENTS Stars on JustJared's Spotlight of the Week

As you know, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones came out this week (make sure you see it this weekend!), in honour of that, JustJared has made Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Godfrey Gao, and Kevin Zegers their star spotlight this week.

Lily Collins' Photoshoot

TMICanada's Lily Collins JustJared 13 album on Photobucket
Just Jared: What is your favorite prop from the set?
Lily Collins: The witch light.
JJ: Did you steal it?
LC: I couldn’t, I wasn’t allowed.
JJ: Did you steal anything from set?
LC: I stole my blue leather jacket with all the rips in it. And my Doc Martens.
JJ: What was the craziest stunt that you did?
LC: Ooh! Well, pretty much running around at three or four in the morning with my heels on was enough. But I ran, I had to climb up this fire escape and launch myself off of it, after the vampire lets go of my foot, and I did it in my six inch boots and my mini dress, so I was trying not to show any skin while launching myself onto Jamie, which was interesting.

Mortal Instruments Men (Godfrey Gao, Jamie Campbell Bower + Kevin Zegers') Photoshoot

TMICanada's MORTAL INSTRUMENTS Men JustJared album on Photobucket
Just Jared: Do you have a favorite prop from the set of Mortals?
Jamie Campbell Bower: My ring.
JJ: That you stole?
JCB: I didn’t steal it. I asked if I could have it.
JJ: What’s so special about it?
JCB: It’s a huge point when Valentine turns it around. Also, it was probably the smallest thing that I could take. (laughs)
Just Jared: What was your favorite prop from set?
Kevin Zegers: I have these things that are called “tonfas”, which are like a police’s night sticks but they have blades on the end of them.
JJ: Did you take them from set?
KZ: I didn’t. They wouldn’t let me take them.
JJ: Did you take anything?
KZ: They gave me this little thing that has this metal like, what do you call it? Anyway, it’s like this metal dust that’s inside this little jar. So they gave me that.
Just Jared: Do you have a favorite prop from set?
Godfrey Gao: My costume, which I thought was pretty cool. I had two costumes actually. One of them was just a velvet blazer with a lot of crazy designs. It looks silky, but also velvet, and every time you move, it lights up. It’s pretty cool. The bottom, I was wearing my underwear, (laughs), so that was pretty interesting for me. My prop, maybe the towel I had, just to wrap around my legs. I needed that because it was really cold. So that was a warm blanket that I had. Actually, the warlock outfit was pretty cool too. It was like full black, kind of like a demon, a whole suit with a pullover and a black, leather corset around my waist. That was a pretty cool outfit, and I wish I would have used that for maybe my next Halloween costume or something.
JJ: Did you do any crazy stunt work in those costumes?
GG: No, I don’t have any stunt scenes, but hopefully there will be more in the next movie. This movie was just an introduction to the character, I have a few scenes in this movie and Magnus Bane is a popular fan favorite character and it develops into the second and third film as well. It’s just like the books.

Can you believe it: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones LA premiere has/is happened/happening! Remember way back when we were still counting down to the movie (and we were in the 300s)? Or remember when the movie first started filming and all the fans nearby Toronto went out to search for the set? If we go even further back, remember how excited we got when we heard new casting news for Magnus, Alec, Jace, Clary and all the others? After years of waiting for this movie to happen, it's (almost) here!

Hit Zone Asks the 'MORTAL INSTRUMENTS' Cast "What was the Most Interesting Part About Being Trained to be a Shadowhunter?"

Hit Zone had the chance to sit down and talk with Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins, and Kevin Zegers about The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. They discuss topics ranging from: training to be a Shadowhunter to the use of the green screen on set. Check out a snippet of their interview:
What was the most interesting part about being trained to be Shadow Hunters?Lily: Well I figure out in the beginning of the movie what are Shadow Hunters, so my skill level isn't as up to par with these guys. I got to learn how to knife fight, which was really fun, I had done sword fighting before in other movies, so switching the blades up was pretty interesting, and in heels, the whole deal, was pretty fun.
Jamie: I worked quite closely with Jean Frenette, the stunt coordinator on the movie, and I was able to go out there a month before we started shooting, and it was great to be able to work with the stunt team to work to hone my skills a little bit and put down a style of fighting, like really have a specific style of fighting that Jay's had. So that was really interesting and exciting for me.
Kevin: Yeah I would agree with what Jamie said, I think because, especially Shadow Hunters, the characters are so defined by fighting and by the way they fight. I really wanted to establish what, a lot of what these characters are is the way they look, the way they are, the way they walk, the way they fight, especially. So it was important to not just have some generic style of fighting. I mean Jean Frenette is incredible anyway with setting things up but, it was very tailored to, Jamie who's very tall, very lean, and sort of the way he moves around, it's very much different than the way I move around. So I think he tailored the way that we fight to our own kind of physical makeup. And then we had Nuno [Capitao de Salles], who's our physical trainer to get us into shape-shape. So it was very much tailored to creating these characters that when you see from afar, because most of the time we're fighting together and there are scenes where you see Jamie and I fighting together with Jemima and Lily and you can tell, even in the wide-shots, who's who by the way that we're moving around, so it was great. And it felt very, it was sort of like "learn this and do it this way otherwise it's wrong". It was sort of like "well you do this thing well, so we'll throw a little bit more of that stuff in there". So it felt more like a team effort than it did, "just figure out how to do these 25, or 150 moves and then just do it the way that the stunt guy does it or we're screwed". It was more "Jamie can do all 150 and then we'll just shoot it with Jamie". And that's what we ended up doing.

NextMovie Talks About '9 Thing They Learned on 'THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS' Movie Set'

Journals, interviews, and pictures of set visits are starting to surface. NextMovie talks about their experience on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie set. They talk about 9 things that makes The Mortal Instruments unique.
1. Costumes Matter
In case you haven't already noticed, those Brooklyn demon-slayers wear some pretty rad threads. And apparently, all that leather and lace definitely lent favor to these actors getting to fierce mode.
"I love leather, and there's a s**tload," Jamie Bower told us of his gnarly wardrobing. Also beneficial? "The tattoos, I love tattoos ... hell, it makes him look badass."
2. This isn't your everyday fantasy film direction
Sure, there are nether-creatures and vampires and werewolves and angels and everything else under the fantastic sun in the mix here, but if you're gonna have a good drama, there's got to be more to it than just running from this monster or that. And for Cassie Clare, the thing that convinced her director Harald Zwart was up to the job of making her "City of Bones" a real magical movie place was the very fact that he wasn't a fantasy moviemaker by trade.
